I have a tr606, but now I never use it anymore. It also has a much better swing (maschine). But the maschine is much better for using samples, and for playing around with more regular beats.
Much faster to just hit out a beat and play around with it. I also bought a machinedrum, and I have to say that even though they are to completely different machines, I kind of feel like for just making drums (I am very much into glitchy stuff), the machinedrum is better. Also you can use macro knob settings to manipulate knobs of all the linked synths from one page at the same time! Oh and where the play head is determines where the clipboard will paste to. Also you can use the select button (make sure you check the events button) then select all to select the pattern (thus not having to use the mouse to select your pattern). Before you ever even lay the pattern you could use Pad Link to set up your groups with plugins (and also mix and match with sample instruments or modules). You can also stack plugins not just samples and save that as a new Sound:Ī lot of what was done on the above video can also be sped up a bit by doing it all from the hardware instead.

There are things that I haven't figured out yet, like for instance how to stack soundsThere are two ways of layering samples: you can add samples to the same pad (from the hardware, there's an ADD button when you're browsing samples) and there's Pad Link which lets any pad set to Master to trigger any other pad set to Slave. Well, I have the maschine now, and I have to say it really lived up to my expectations. I'm a happy man, and I don't think I need more in life, until I see a cooler gadget, like the Jomox 888. This way I can make beats on maschine, record more from the Vermona, put it in the maschine, and just play all night long. I also have a Vermona drm, which is a great piece of analog drum, and now I just make some good sounds with it, record them individually, and use maschine to make beats. I sampled all the sounds, and now I have it in maschine, and it feels so much better as my 606 had really bad contacts on the buttons, and had to press them so hard.
I think my workflow is going to be much better with this. The pads are the best, very responsive, but sometimes I wish they where a little softer. There are things that I haven't figured out yet, like for instance how to stack sounds, and how to route individual sounds out to my DAW, but these things are probably possible, I just haven't had that much time with it.īut the feel of this thing is amazing, really solid built, really good knobs that feel great, unlike mu midi-keyboard (novation sl) which feels so crappy. The reason I am interested in Maschine is an interview I saw with Kangding Ray where he had one, and I guess I was smitten.
My day-job requires me to sit in front of a computer all day, so when I get home to making music I now feel uninspired sitting in front of a screen again. And what I'm looking for are more hardware as I'm getting tired of sitting behind a computer screen all the time. If this says anything, I'm into making experimental dance/bass music, whatever that may be, but I'm inspired by things like Kangding Ray, Autechre, Alva Noto, Bochum Welt, etc. I did search a bit, maybe not as much as I should, but mostly I found posts upon posts that went on discussing this against MPC and other machines.

I still look to my 3rd party solutions for this as well. The effects aren't the greatest, nor the widest selection, but they aren't absolutely horrible and cover most basic effect types. I enjoy the workflow especially for drum/perc programming, some people dont. For me, I would like to think it has significantly reduced my mouse usage with alot of things, however I still use my trusty mouse for faster sample browsing etc. Whether it will improve your workflow, that depends on how you like to work etc. I didn't use it much until recently, but I am back to using my DAW for faster effect bus routing etc. Yes one of the latest updates allows you to host vsts and plugins inside the software.
